St John's Wood - Paddington Basin

Regent's Canal, London. Wed 17 Jul 2019

I joined the Regents Canal at the Park Road bridge

The Undergroud from Baker St and the railway lines from Marylebone Station go over the canal here

Thomas Lord's second cricket ground was here in 1811, but had to move when the canal was built through its outfield two years later

The bridge carries the canal side path to the south side of the canal. The path along the north bank has been closed for some years

 The Lisson Grove Estate

The north bank of the canal has moorings and the site behind them is the St John's Wood National Grid station

The Canal House is in a bridge over a canal, and was built around 1902 for the manager who controlled the coal barges,
going in and out of the power station (now the National Grid St John's Wood Substation. Its entrance at 120 Lisson Grove
is on the upper floor. It has an extension on the left side hidden by the trees.

Oops! That's my finger over the lens... The canal path was moved to here around ten years ago

The Lisson Grove Centre of Westminster Adult Education service

Boats wait to go through the 249 metres long Maida Hill Tunnel. They have to wait until there are no boats

 coming in the opposite direction

The tunnel emerges under a restuarant
